basic and dudely (the cold warps)

urban (sleater-kinney)

older, angry, and annonymous (new bomb turks)

harsh and half-tone (the reatards)

naked (the slits)

Overheard at Wellesley & Queen's Park: [Jul. 13th, 2011|10:59 am]
"I guess I'm worried that I'll come off like an idiot."

"Well that's inevitable. The question is whether you'll come off as an asshole."

The Scarborough RT was stopped today because of a family of ducks.

I didn't deliberately turn this into the traffic report but it looks like that's all this blog is anymore.

Golly I dislike taking public transit in the spring/summer. My bike's taking longer than expected to fix. Today on the subway there was a woman who was standing while knitting and carrying on a conversation with the elderly. She gets a psychic 5-leaves-left high five for that.

I've been on hold with The City of Cambridge's Water Department for some time. There, that was peak into my work life right there!

Have I complained yet about the folks on the Ossington bus who all bunch up around the rear doors and don't make room for the folks north of Dundas? When my day starts with having to contend with these mutants it's just the worst. I've now taken to just saying "excuse me" and physically moving them aside if I have to. Today they were particularly bad and the driver just threw up her hands and told people to get on at the rear doors. And this is how I got to ride the bus, and then the subway, for free today.

Chris Kiss's Dundas West Running Guide [Apr. 13th, 2011|10:19 am]
Here is a list of the running routes in my enighbourhood. Brought to you by...bordom!

1. WEST: The track at the school where College and Dundas meet

It's a simple running track. You get to watch the streetcars go by the bridge by the rail path and the Go Trains go by underneath. The school has a rounded, orange brick façade and is rather nice at sundown when the light hits it at a certain angle. Along the fence to the train tracks there are tall, droopy trees (I don't know willows? Do I look like an arborist?) that drop colourful leaves along the track.

Pro: Not too busy. Con: ten minutes (run) away

2. SOUTH: Condoland/Lakeshore

Sometimes it's nice to go south. I end up near the condos which is a cold and forbidding environment. It's Starbuckses and Second Cupses, hardly anyone outside, and walled up construction areas. The buildings actually feel like they're turning away from you. But there's privacy, space, and long streets. You can go by Stanley Park, or over the bridge if you want a change of scenery.

Pro: space. Con: depressing

3. East: Trinity Bellwoods

There's other runners there. Also a lot of dogs. I like it out here only I wish the park was big enough for a full run. After about 10 or 15 minutes there's pretty much no place to go so I keep going south and likely end up in condo land.

Pro: pretty. Con: dogs.

. 1. A guy got his track bike stuck in the turnstiles at Ossington Station. The collector had to come out with a toolbox to dismantle the entire bike to get it through.

2. I am finished with live music for awhile. I saw Method Man, Fucked Up, Titus Andronicus, The Mountain Goats, and Nomeansno in a 4-day span. Only Nomeansno were exceptional, although Fucked Up was pretty hot stuff. Their set was comprised exclusively of new songs and they are making me stoked for their upcoming album.

3. There's a strange sounds coming from the north end of the office that vaguely sounds like Morrissey's voice. It's driving me nuts because I don't know what it is

"Hello?"

"Hi! What are you up to?"

"I'm eating pasta and listening to GG Allin."

"That's unfortunate."
